The short version
- We collect your name, phone, email and delivery address to deliver your order.
- Payments are handled by Cashfree Payments. We never see or store your card or UPI details.
- We do not sell your personal data.
- We count how the website is used with our own simple, anonymous analytics: no cookies, nothing you type, no IP address stored in our analytics, and no advertising or outside analytics companies. You can switch it off in one tap, from the link at the bottom of any page (see section 3).
- You can ask us to show, correct or delete your data at any time by writing to hello@foodtalesbooks.com.
1. Who we are
This website is run by Aroh Learning LLP (LLPIN ACP-6585), whose registered address is 13A, 2nd Floor, Vinayaka Nagar, Kovaipudur, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu 641042, India. We decide why and how your personal data is used when you order Food Tales books, so under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 we are the “Data Fiduciary”. We also follow the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the rules made under it.
2. What we collect
When you place an order or write to us, we collect:
- Your name
- Your phone number (which we may also use on WhatsApp)
- Your email address
- Your delivery address and pincode
- Your order details, such as the books and quantities you ordered, the amount, and the status of your order and payment
- Anything you tell us when you contact us for support, including photos you send us
Payments are made on the secure payment page of Cashfree Payments. We only receive a confirmation that your payment succeeded or failed, along with a payment reference. We do not receive or store your card number, UPI PIN or bank login details.
Like most websites, our hosting systems may record basic technical information such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested. We use this only to keep the website secure and working. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not use your data for advertising. The anonymous way we measure how the website is used is described in the next section.
3. Website analytics
We measure how people use this website, so that we can make it clearer and easier to buy from. We do this ourselves, on our own systems. We do not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel or any other outside analytics or advertising company, and nothing about your visit is shared with one.
What we measure:
- Which pages and parts of a page you see, for roughly how long, and how far you scroll
- What you tap or click (the name of the button or link, for example “Get all 3 books”), and whether you add a book to the cart, open the cart or press Pay
- Which checkout boxes you reach and whether one shows an error, by the name of the box only (for example “PIN code”), and how pressing Pay ended
- Your device type (phone, tablet or computer, from the screen width), your browser language, and the name of the website that sent you here, if any, and any campaign tag in the link
- Three small items kept in your browser’s own storage, and none of them is made from anything about you: a random visit number (
ft_sid, forgotten when you close the tab), a random visitor number (ft_vid, kept until you clear your browser’s site data, so we can tell a returning visitor from a new one) and the date of your last counted visit (ft_vday, so that you are counted once a day). If you switch analytics off we also keep a note saying so (ft_noanalytics), so that your choice is remembered. We do not use cookies for this.
What we never measure: your name, email address, phone number or address, anything you type into a box, or your IP address (the analytics system does not store it). We ignore robots and search-engine crawlers.
When you place an order, we keep your random visit number with the order, so that we can count which source (for example Instagram or a search) led to it. That means we can see which visit became an order. We use it only to count orders by source, and the analytics itself holds only the order number, the amount and whether it was paid, never your details.
How long we keep it: each recorded action and each visit summary is deleted automatically after 180 days. We keep daily totals (counts with nothing that identifies anyone) for longer, to see how the shop grows over the years. The analytics is kept on Google Cloud, in the same place as our order database.
Your choices: the easiest way to switch analytics off is the link “Turn website analytics off” at the bottom of every page. It works in the browser inside Instagram and WhatsApp too, takes effect at once, and also makes this browser forget its random numbers. The same link turns analytics back on. If your browser sends “Do Not Track” or “Global Privacy Control”, we respect it, and nothing about your visit is measured or stored. The one thing that is always counted is an order: the order number and its amount go into our sales totals, with nothing that identifies you. You can also opt out by adding ?noanalytics=1 to the end of any page address on this website (to turn it back on, use ?noanalytics=0). Clearing your browser’s site data removes the random numbers. To ask us to delete the analytics we hold from your browser, email hello@foodtalesbooks.com with the visitor number from your browser’s storage (it is saved under the name ft_vid; we will help you find it). Because the numbers are random, that is the only way we can tell which records are yours. When we delete them, the order numbers and amounts that were recorded against those visits are deleted too.
4. Why we use your data
- To take, confirm, pack and deliver your order
- To process payments, cancellations and refunds
- To send you order confirmations, dispatch and tracking updates by email or WhatsApp
- To answer your questions and give you support
- To keep our records as required by tax, accounting and other laws
- To protect the website and our customers from fraud and misuse
- To understand, in anonymous counts, how the website is used, so that we can improve it (see section 3)
We use your data only for these purposes, which you agree to when you place an order. We do not sell your personal data. We will not send you marketing messages unless you have agreed to receive them.
6. How long we keep your data
We keep your order details for as long as we need them to complete your order, handle returns and refunds, and give you support. Tax and accounting laws can require us to keep some order and payment records for several years. When we no longer need your data and the law does not require us to keep it, we delete it or remove anything that identifies you. Website analytics have their own, shorter limits, described in section 3.
7. How we protect your data
We use reasonable security measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and limited access to our order database. No website or system can be made completely risk-free, but we work to keep your data safe. If there is ever a data breach that affects you, we will inform you and the authorities as the law requires.
8. Your rights
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you have the right to:
- Ask for a summary of the personal data we hold about you and how we use it
- Ask us to correct, complete or update your data
- Ask us to erase your data. We will do so unless we need to keep it to meet a legal requirement, for example tax records
- Withdraw your consent at any time. This will not affect what we did before you withdrew it
- Use our grievance process below if you have a complaint about your data
- Nominate another person to exercise these rights for you if you die or cannot do so yourself
To use any of these rights, email us at hello@foodtalesbooks.com from the email address you ordered with, or tell us the phone number and order number so we can confirm it is you. We do not charge a fee for this. If we need to withhold anything, we will explain why.
9. Children
Our books are for children aged 2 to 6, but this website is for parents and guardians. Orders must be placed by an adult. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has given us personal data, please email us and we will delete it.
10. Links to other websites
This website links to other sites, such as our Instagram page. These sites have their own privacy practices, and we are not responsible for them.
11. Grievance Officer
If you have a question or complaint about how we handle your personal data, please contact our Grievance Officer. We will acknowledge your complaint and aim to resolve it within one month of receiving it.
